Volkswagen Children’s Football Seed Program starts in Beijing

- Volkswagen Children’s Football Seed Program kicked off in 5 kindergartens in Beijing as pilot phase

- Partnering with Chinese Ministry of Education (MoE), China Education Development Foundation (CEDF), and Tom Byer, Volkswagen Group China wants to help increase football population and build up a self-sustainable football culture for Chinese children.

[October 24, 2015, Beijing] With the further advance of Volkswagen’s efforts supporting China’s youth football development, Volkswagen Group China kicked off its “Children’s Football Seed Program” in 5 kindergartens in Beijing as pilot phase today. Prof. JochemHeizmann, Member of the Board of Volkswagen AG, President & CEO Volkswagen Group China, LvWenke, deputy director-general of department of sport, health and art education, MoE, attended signing ceremony and jointly awarded the authorization to these 5 pilot kindergartens.

“Children football is the future of China football” said LvWenke, deputy director-general of sport, health and art education, MoE, “Popularizing football, enhancing teaching and competition system are the three main aspects of the youth football development in China. With football education starting at an early age, it will not only help increase football playing population, but also build up a football culture for generations”

Volkswagen Children Football Seed Program: let football dreamsseed and sprout

As part of overall plan of supporting youth football development in China, Volkswagen Children Football Seed Program will start with pilot phase in 5 kindergartens in Beijing, targeting at children in age of 4 to 6. Approximately more than 600 children will benefit from it.

Empowering parents and kindergarten teachers the fundamental techniques and know-hows of early childhood football are the key. Hence, prior to training session at kindergartens, parents’ communication session will be arranged at each kindergarten to help parents understand why football education could start at this early age, how children could benefit physically and intellectually and what kind of roles parents and kindergarten teachers should play.

In addition, to assist parents and kindergarten teachers, an application has been developed for free download at apple and android devices. This application is equipped with video content, slow motion playback and 3D effect and a full range of football basic moves, which will enrich the learning experiences of children. Handbooks for parents and children will be provided so that parents could track and record their children’s’ training on regular basis.

Unique football philosophy: a self-sustaining football culture

“For China to be successful in football, the culture needs to be developedwith children. They need to be taught fundamental football techniques at early age” said Tom Byer, worldwide renowned youth football development Coach and member of Chinese School Football Program Expert Committee since 2012. The way to create a self-sustaining football culture amongst young children is for them to enjoy the game of football. The only way they will enjoy the game is they are taught proper fundamental skills early so that they can control and manipulate the ball.
