Volkswagen Group is committed to reshaping mobility through electrification and digitization, realizing a vision of low-carbon and sustainable social development. In China, while implementing our global strategy and leading the future of mobility, we also persistently fulfill our social responsibility. In 2021, we released a brand-new corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, focusing on three strategic areas: a low-carbon future, education, and economic empowerment; we also launched the Big Starts Small employee volunteer charity program. We have pledged an additional RMB 200 million in CSR funding for period of 2021 to 2025 to create public welfare initiatives by effectively integrating social development, policies, and our own resources to create sustainable, long-term social value.

  • 2023

    • • In March, the Youth Summit 2022 Get Together Event concluded, showcasing the creative ideas and innovative practices of young talents in the field of future mobility.
    • • In April, the Better Life project invited 30 outstanding students to Shanghai. The students areeconomically disadvantaged and currently studying in automotive-related vocational schools. In Shanghai, they learned all about the most cutting-edge automotive products and technologies through visits to a SAIC VOLKSWAGEN dealership and MEB Plant along with a guided tour of Auto Shanghai 2023.
    • • From April to June, Youth Summit 2023 was launched and initiated various interactive activities with students in five universities in Shanghai, Anhui, Wuhan, Chengdu and Beijing, inspiring young talents to showcase their unique ideas and innovations around future mobility.
    • • In May, Volkswagen Group China was named the "Charitable Enterprise of the Year" for its ongoing investment and significant impact in public welfare. This marks the fourth time the Group has received the award.
    • • In June, the Green Belt afforestation project planted 850,000 trees in Jiuquan, Gansu province, with a four million square meter coverage, to support local ecological restoration.
  • 2022

    • • In April, Big Start Small employee volunteer project, together with the Green Belt project, planted trees in Fangshan, Beijing, under the name of the Volkswagen Group China Employee Volunteer Public Welfare Forest.
    • • In May, Volkswagen Grassroots Youth Football Coaches' Training Program 2022 kicked off.
    • • In May, Volkswagen Group China was named the "Charitable Enterprise of the Year", the third time the Group received the award.
    • • In June, the Green Belt afforestation project was launched in Tu Autonomous County of Huzhu, Qinghai province. Around 850,000 trees were planted in a four million square m2eter area to significantly improve the area’s ecology.
    • • From June to October, Youth Summit 2022 Innovative Camp was successfully conducted in Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Shanghai.
    • • In August, more than 120 young people and their families participated in the 2022 Volkswagen Football Charity Day. Through the event, 120 sets of football equipment were donated to students at Fumin Primary School in Gulang, Wuwei, Gansu province, supporting young people in underdeveloped areas to pursue their own footballing dreams.
    • • In September, Volkswagen Group China activated its “Better Life” Project for the 2022 academic year, helping 1,000 more students in Sichuan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Hebei, and Anhui provinces complete their automotive education at the secondary or higher vocational level.
    • • In September, Volkswagen Group China’s employee volunteers donated “Warm Bags” enclosed with children’s books, stationery, games, and bags to send their warmth and care to children who are affected by the Luding Earthquake in Sichuan province.
    • • In October, the “Volkswagen Youth Football Online Camp” WeChat mini program has been upgraded with a new charity function that encourages deeper engagement in public welfare.
  • 2021

    • • In January, Volkswagen Group China unveiled a brand-new corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, focusing on three strategic areas: a low-carbon future, education, and economic empowerment, and also launched its Big Starts Small employee volunteer charity program.
    • • In January, the first employee volunteer activity “Shoes for Love” was launched. Employee volunteers painted and donated shoes and winter clothing to underprivileged children living in remote mountain regions in Yunnan province.
    • • In April, the Green Belt afforestation project was first launched in Gulang county, Wuwei, Gansu province. The project planted 850,000 trees in Gulang, covering a four million square meter area.
    • • In April, the Better Life project was launched, with the first phase progressing simultaneously in Sichuan, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces, helping 1,000 students with financial difficulties complete their secondary or senior level automotive-related vocational education.
    • • In June, the Youth Summit project was launched.
    • • In December, the Volkswagen Youth Football Online Camp was launched. It is the first online education platform focusing on youth football in China's public welfare field.
  • 2020

    • • Volkswagen Group China and two of its joint ventures put on a united effort to collectively donate RMB 120 million in support of COVID-19 relief work. The donation went towards securing medical supplies and providing urgently needed aid, such as protective equipment, medical equipment, medicine, and other materials, to hospitals across the Hubei Province and other Chinese provinces facing a public health crisis. The donation was made by Volkswagen Group China and its brands, including Volkswagen, Audi, ŠKODA, Porsche and Bentley, together with its Chinese joint ventures, FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC VOLKSWAGEN. The donation was also used to provide medical supplies, treatment and other forms of supports to areas in mainland China with urgent needs.
  • 2019

    • • In 2019, the “Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Cultural Development Foundation - Volkswagen Fund for Youth Musical and Artistic Education” was established to support the Artistic Engagement Program-China (AEP-China), creating more opportunities for young people to understand music, art and culture. This is done through programs such as the M.A.P. Class, Very Young Composers Program, and Guangdong International Youth Music Week, as well as the teaching activities of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra Shanghai, the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker, and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, among others.
  • 2018

    • • In January, the second Guangdong International Youth Music Week, supported by the Artistic Engagement Program-China (AEP-China), was successfully held. For the second year in a row, celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma led a team of premier instructors to exchange and interact with young musicians from four continents through music workshops, master classes and performances.
    • • In June, Volkswagen Group China co-launched the "Child Traffic-Friendly Community" project together with the China Women's Development Foundation.
    • • From September to October, Volkswagen Group China fully supported Andreas Mühe, one of the most important contributors to the "Deutschland 8" art exhibition, to hold his first solo exhibition in China, promoting Sino-German cultural and artistic exchange.
    • • In October, Volkswagen Group China, together with well-known conductor Yu Long, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and many internationally renowned musicians, held the Deutsche Grammophon’s 120th Anniversary Gala Concert at the Imperial Ancestral Temple.
  • 2017

    • • In early 2017, The Artistic Engagement Program-China (AEP-China), co-founded by Volkswagen Group China and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, was officially launched. AEP-China focuses on the concepts of “youth”, “the art of music” and “throughout China”, and aims to gather and link young Chinese people through sustainable musical programs and experience activities at home and abroad, inspiring perceptions of and participation in the arts.
    • • In September, Volkswagen Group China supported the Deutschland 8 art exhibition in Beijing, a driving force for the Sino-German exchange.
    • • In September, the “My Green University” educational platform was officially launched, transcending barriers of quantity, geography, time, and resources to extend its benefits to a broader pool of teachers.
  • 2016

    • • In May, Volkswagen Group China joined China Automotive Technology & Research Center to launch the Blue Book on Child Road Safety in China.
    • • In June, in the presence of the then-serving premiers of China and Germany, Volkswagen Group China and the China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF) signed a fund cooperation agreement. This was followed by a collaboration agreement on the 1,000 Environmentally Friendly Teacher Ambassadors Program signed by VGC, CEPF, and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment Education Center.
    • • In June, the Theatertreffen, a top-level cultural German Theatre festival, fully supported by Volkswagen Group China, brought its outstanding works to China for the "Berlin Theatre Festival in China". It aimed to create more opportunities for the public to participate in cultural and artistic endeavors, and to actively promote cultural communication between China and Germany.
    • • In September, Volkswagen Group China supported the Sino-German Youth Exchange Celebration Concert and the China Youth Music Competition. The awards were aligned with the well-known German youth music competition "Jugend Musiziert", and were aimed at providing young Chinese musicians with the opportunity to perform on the national stage.
    • • In October, Volkswagen Group China and the Goethe-Institute jointly launched the Youth Environment Ambassador Action & Education Program (YEAAEP). The program aims to educate the youth about nature and build long-term awareness of protecting the environment and nature, encouraging them to take action. Furthermore, the program contributes to the sustainable development of environmental education in China.
  • 2015

    • • In 2015, Volkswagen Group China joined forces with the China Sports Foundation to establish the " Volkswagen Youth Football Development Fund." Subsequently, a series of initiatives was launched, including the Volkswagen Youth Football Training Camp, Volkswagen Youth Football Summer Camp, Volkswagen Youth Football Train-the-Trainer Program, Volkswagen Youth Football Summer Camp in Germany, and the Volkswagen Youth Football Sports Injury Prevention and Nutrition Program.
    • • In May, Volkswagen Group China partnered with the China Women’s Development Foundation (CWDF) to host the Second China Child Road Safety Forum under the theme “Protect Childhood, Child Safety First”. During the event, the two organizations established the “Volkswagen Group China Child Safety Fund”.
  • 2014

    • • In 2014, 10 teachers from Yan’an Vocational and Technical College and Xingguo Vocational High School were invited to participate in the Vocational Education Teacher Training Program.
    • • In March, Volkswagen Group China provided support for the “Rainbow Bridge Project”, which brought junior football teams from Zhidan County and Hong’an County to Germany to practice and participate in football matches with the VfL Wolfsburg.
    • • In November, Volkswagen Group China announced its plans to donate 50 million RMB to charity in China. This funding further supported raising awareness for child safety, post-disaster reconstruction efforts, junior football, and education.
  • 2013

    • • In 2013, Volkswagen Group China joined the Rainbow Bridge Project, following the invitation of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC). With the goal of “teaching people how to fish”, the program focused on promoting the development of vocational education and youth football in underdeveloped areas.
    • • In November, Volkswagen Group China announced the launch of the Volkswagen Group Child Safety Initiative, partnering with the China Women’s Development Foundation and its two joint-venture companies SAIC VOLKSWAGEN and FAW-Volkswagen, and engaging six Volkswagen Group brands.
